Weekend Wrap-Up: Week of Procrastination
The Weekend Wrap-Up offers a little look at what I’m reading, the new books that came my way, and anything else I may have gotten up to this past week. I will be linking up to Stacking the Shelves, The Sunday Post and It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? and hopping around your blogs a little to see what the community has to share too!
My Week
It’s been a week of procrastination, to be honest. Every time I thought about doing something, I’d do something else instead. Oops! I listened to a lot of music though, got a little reading done, and started on the New World beta to see what I thought.&
Early in the week, I started doing a little roleplay with some people from the Magical Readathon over Discord using a character I haven’t had the chance to use in a D&D campaign yet. That’s been pretty fun!
Friday night we actually went out. Of the house. *gasp* It was Dan’s sister’s 40th and she was throwing a party so I put some makeup on for the first time in a few years and we went out and got to see the family for a few hours, who I haven’t seen in a couple years, for the most part. It was really nice, honestly. I usually hate parties but I’d missed everyone. I feel like I’ve been run over today, and no I don’t drink, but social hangovers are about as bad. So I will be chilling and resting up this evening.
Reading
Still on Empire in Black and Gold by Adrian Tchaikovsky this week, I’m really starting to enjoy this one, the story is starting to kick off! It’s still slow going, however, with all my procrastination and other brain stuff but it will have to take over soon because I also have The Chronicles of Iona: Exile to read for an upcoming blog tour review, which I’m really excited for! As well as A Wrinkle in Time for a book club with some good friends on Discord.
Watching
I watched a couple of movies this week! We did a little Kubo and the Two Strings watch party on Discord which was a delight. It’s my favourite movie and I hadn’t seen it since we saw it at the cinema years ago. A few days later I decided it was about time I watched the original Candyman as I never had. I’m super excited to see the new one so I wanted to catch the classic. I liked it okay, the Candyman character is excellent, I love him. The story was alright. Overall glad I watched it but probably wouldn’t rewatch.
Listening
So much music. I did one of those “I’ll share a song I love for every like this post gets” memes on Twitter this week and turned that into a playlist on Spotify. Enjoy. That took up a couple of days worth of procrastination and got me into a music mood. After grabbing Spotify Premium again, I made a couple of Blends with friends and sat listening to one with my friend while chatting a bit and trying to tell myself I was doing other things.
Playing
I pretty much successfully avoided gaming all week because I knew I needed to get some reading done among all the procrastination, but then I was informed that New World had an “open beta” this weekend and heck. I haven’t followed this game much at all so I didn’t know what it was about, really. I remember when it was announced as a.. basically a colonisation survival game and decided it wasn’t for me, but it’s changed so much since then and having the opportunity to experience it a little for free gives me the chance to find out if it’s something I can write off.
Turns out I started really enjoying the game. Crap. There’s a lot coming up that looks really interesting, it’s full of magic and corrupted land, the combat is actually really fun, there’s housing and all sorts. I was not prepared for this. I can’t afford a £35 game right now, and I have 3 books to read by the end of the month! Welp.
On the Blog
It has been another quiet week on the blog but I am patting myself on the back for getting up a Wednesday post! I am looking forward to sharing what I have in the pipeline for you all but for now, here’s what you may have missed.
Incoming
Three new books on the Kindle this week. I’ve heard great things about The Black Hawks by David Wragg, and I’ve had my eye on The Children of Ash & Elm by Neil Price for a while, wanting to actually read some history of the Vikings and Nordic people. The Chronicles of Iona: Exile is, as mentioned above, for an upcoming book tour review so keep an eye out for that 1st October! This is a historical fiction set in Scotland, based on two figures that are compared to Arthur and Merlin. I’m very excited!
I also wanted to mention a video game, this week! I never really mention the Epic Game freebies I pick up, for some reason. This week’s are Sheltered and Nioh which I snatched up, for anybody curious. However, a dear friend gifted me a copy of Dead By Daylight this week while it was on super sale so I will be giving this a go sometime soon! Certainly after the New World beta weekend and without eating into my reading time too much, but I’m excited. This will be a bit more gruesome than Phasmophobia but heck it.
Next Week
I do plan to play a little more of the New World beta, I just… look I was enjoying it. I don’t usually go for betas because the progress doesn’t carry across and that bothers me, but I was getting really into it and want to see just a little more while I can. If I play anything else, it’ll be Final Fantasy XIV and/or Dead By Daylight, perhaps Phasmophobia if that comes up.
Of course, I have a lot of reading to do for the rest of this month so that is my big priority, as well as a few blog posts I want to work on.
How have your weeks been? Reading anything good? Got up to anything interesting? I’d love to hear what you’re all getting up to in the comments!

Historical fiction set in Scotland sounds delightful. I haven’t read anything that takes place there.
Same! I can’t wait to dig in.
Ha ha social hangover, I’ll have to remember that. So true! I bought a copy of The Black Hawks, I hope I can find time to read it. Hope you have a good week!
You’re welcome. 😂 Yeah, same! People seem to like it. And you too!
I was this close to jumping on board the New World beta, but after this long, I figure I could wait a little longer for the full release. I am sticking to my vow of “never again” when it comes to MMO betas, lol!
Ahahaha. Yeah, if I knew I’d be jumping in at full release I wouldn’t have gone near it. Treating this as a free trial, really. See what it has to offer for me. I like what I see, which probably isn’t a good thing. 🙈
Sounds like quite an exciting week – even with the procrastination! Enjoy the books and trying the beta of New World.
It was pretty nice! Thank you. ^^
Social hangovers are tough!! I feel the same way! Have a good week!
You too!
Doesn’t it feel good to get out and even put a bit of make up on? It feels normal and I think we all could use bits of normal 🙂
It does. It’s hard for me but it’s nice when I’m able. <3 And for sure.
I know what you mean about procrastinating on reading. I think sometimes it is because the book isn’t one that has me hooked as much as others. It might be good, but I know it won’t be a 5 star for me. I am reading one right now that I have been speeding through and even took time to read it this morning instead of blogging like I should have been doing. lol Hope you have a good week!
Lisa Loves Literature
It’s definitely not that, though I do get that with some for sure. I noticed it with Elantris. 🙈 I’ve just been all over the place with concentration, so if it’s not right in front of me, I just forget it. Such a pain! I’m trying to set myself timers for certain tasks so I don’t spend too long and start procrastinating more. It’s doing something, at least.
You too!
That’s awesome you were able to get out for a while! It does feel weird now in some ways after the pandemic. New World sounds interesting, I’ll have to check that out.
Love the sound of the Viking history.
It’s always felt a bit weird but yeah, moreso now. Really hope the pandemic doesn’t last much longer.
It is! I played a little more yesterday, now I’m sad because I need to buy it and stuff. xD
The Chronicles of Iona sounds fascinating, especially given my Scots heritage. I hope you have a good week, and enjoy your gaming time.
Doesn’t it?? Gonna be a fun one to review!
I have not heard of the term social hangover, but I most certainly have had them! Just never had a name for it until now. Thanks!
Hahaha, you’re welcome!
Looks like you had a fun mix of things going on this week. I don’t procrastinate about reading..more like I fall asleep before having time to…lol
Yeah! It was a nice change. Haha, that too.
I know all about procrastination. I do it all the time and I really shouldn’t. But the important things get done (like bill paying) so I call it a win. lol My boys are counting down the days for Warhammer. I guess it’s an update? Or an addition? Because they already play it ALL the time. My daughter’s boyfriend observed that Trip and Kyle are like locusts. They swoop in, suck out all the resources of a game then move on. LOL Now that we seem to have faster internet maybe they’ll start a Twitch thingy. 😀
Hey, as long as it works, right? xD
I don’t play Warhammer. Let’s see.. Looks like there’s a new game coming out in the franchise? I dunno, haha. There’s the tabletop game, and then a whole bunch of different video games, I can’t keep up.
Hahaha, yeah, I know a lot of people like that. That could be cool! If they do tell them about a new chatbot I just found called “Firebot”, apparently it’s pretty good!
My son is a fan of Dead By Daylight, New World sounds like something my eldest would love. My gaming these days is pretty much restricted to Ascension, and occasionally Lords of the Waterdeep, on my IPad.
Wishing you a great reading week
Both great games! I have yet to see if Dead By Daylight is for me or not but I shall investigate. I don’t know Ascension or Lords of Waterdeep, sounds Sword Coasty? Will have to Google!
You too. <3
I think once we feel like we are behind we lose motivation to catch up, leading to lots of procrastination. I should be making dinner right now, but I am doing this instead, LOL. Have a great week and happy reading!
Oh gosh, yeah. Sometimes. I am determined though! I have deadlines for a couple things so hopefully I don’t hear them whoosh by. Haha.
It sounds like you had a good week. I’m a very good procrastinator so I know where you’re coming from 🙂
I hope this is a good week for you.
It was nice, yeah. ^^
You too!
Sounds like a fulfilling week with lots of variety. Yes even we introverts love a family gathering when we haven’t seen anyone for so long.
Indeed! Even if we’re exhausted for 3 days following. It’s worth it. ^^
I will be very interested in hearing what you think about Children of Ash and Elm. I had that book on my wishlist for a long time, and then I read a scathing review and took it off. Now let’s see what you think!
Oh! I think I read an unfavourable review as well, actually. But it was 99p and maybe I’ll get something out of it. 😀
